Happy September to all!

On September 9th we  are having a Grandparent’s Day brunch to celebrate all our amazing grandparents here at Bickford Senior Living. Following brunch there will be an interactive DJ entertaining us.  Please make sure you sign up for this event by September 6th.   We hope to have a full list of reservations, and look forward to seeing you there.  

HOWIE (Bickford Bus) – We are stilling operating HOWIE for appointments on Tuesdays & Thursdays.  If there is an issue and we cannot accommodate an appointment, we will contact the Bickford resident and or family member directly. 

BFM (Bickford Family Member) Position updates:

RNC (Registered Nurse Coordinator)- I am very excited to announce that we have hired Melissa Ousley as our new RNC.  In addition to Melissa we have also hired a back-up RNC to assist Melissa named Adrianne.

Maintenance position- We are still interviewing candidates for this position to ensure we have the best individual for all of our maintenance needs. Although we do not have a maintenance person on site, we have been promptly addressing all maintenance concerns  as they arise.  If there are any maintenance concerns and/or issues please bring them to my attention.

Resident Spotlight:

Mary Ward Doerr

Mary was born in the small town of Benton, Illinois on October 17, 1925, joining 5 other siblings.  After high school she attended the National College of Education in Evanston, and received a bachelor's degree in elementary education.  For the next 23 years she taught kindergarten, and then moved onto children with behavior and learning disabilities.  Eventually her passion led her to earn a master's degree in education from NIU, and eventually retired after 30 years of teaching.  In her personal life she married Bob Doerr and had 5 children in only 6 years.  

In in 1964 she moved to Rockford.  Her three daughters; Barb, Lynn, and 

Patti continue to visit their mom daily. Her sons; Dave and Rob live in Texas and Florida, and also visit Mary frequently. Mary is not one to sit around.  She enjoyed many hobbies and activities after retirement including refinishing furniture, sewing, swimming, Bible studies, and cooking for everyone.  She is a devoted and passionate Christian, and role model to her family.    Mary took many active leadership roles in Church such as Women's Ministry, Single's Ministry, and forming the Divorce Recovery Workshop for First Assembly of God Church. Although she has been limited since moving to Bickford, her content, quiet spirit remains strong, and positive. Bickford is very blessed to have such an inspirational woman as a member of our community.
