Every resident walked the red carpet, got interviewed and had their picture taken, received kisses from their fans, ate movie theatre popcorn and drank champagne and beer provided by Advanced Healthcare, and were asked for their autographs. They were even able to take home their own stars from our Bickford Walk of Fame. It was a great time!

Many fun hats were seen at the branch today for National Hat Day! It was a chance to show off our personalities and share stories. One story, in fact, by this lovely lady was fascinating. The pink foldable elephant hat she wore was something she was given after walking part of the Great Wall of China. Amazing! While wearing our hats, we listened to the very talented Ed Clark on piano! One of our sweet couples were able to listen to Ed - an old friend who used to accompany them when they were ballroom dancers. It was a wonderful day!

Today is St. Nicholas Day! We learned about the holy man while drawing our representation of him in Doodle & Discussion. Did you know that St. Nick wasn't referred to as Santa Claus until the early 1800s? Authors wrote about a jolly, heavy-set elf who smoked a pipe and delivered presents to the good kids in a sleigh with flying reindeer based on the stories of the famous Bishop St. Nicholas. By reviving and remaking St. Nicholas - who had become unpopular - they hoped to make Christmas a family celebration. It worked!

This morning we thanked our veterans here at Bickford - all 12 of them. We are grateful to have had our men and women serve in the Army, Marines, Navy, Coast Guard, and Air Force. After our ceremony, many hugs were given and a new American Flag was hung out front. Below is a picture of just a few of our heroes who attended the Veterans Luncheon at the Elk Lodge 158 last week. The Rio Olympics has come to a close. We had so much fun watching and talking about the different sports and how well our country was doing. We even listened to some amazing stories from one of our very own residents. While he may not have been an Olympian, he sure has the qualifications to be one - dedicated, strong, high self-esteem, and great runner. He can happily say that he has ran a marathon in every single state including D.C. and other countries such as Cuba. Did I mention he accomplished all of this from his late fifties until his seventies? He is one impressive man and we are very lucky to know him!

Last week sure was busy! We began the week with an ice cream social to celebrate the first official day of summer. Intellectual Tuesday brought about many good conversations. In Current Events, we discussed all of the heart-wrenching news from the past few weeks. In Book Club, we laughed as we read a funny short story which ultimately got us thinking of the fun and funny moments we have had in our lives. On Thursday, a bunch of us headed to Baker's Square where the meal definitely ended in pie. We followed lunch up with a Jewelry Making class. Thursday was also National Pink Day and many of our lovely ladies sported the beautiful color. Can't wait to see what this week holds!
