Don't you just adore the men in your life? We sure do! That's why we celebrated them outside on a beautiful day listening to Classic Rock, eating bratwursts from the grill, and playing lawn games. Happy Father's Day!

Ahoy, Mateys! We had a blimey good time as buccaneers shipwrecked on Pirate Island! As pirates entered, they were told to walk the plank off the ship Captain Morgan (aka Maintenance Man Russ) built. On the island, we searched for the booty, played a couple rounds of bingo with the jewels from the treasure chest, snacked on pirate food, and finished by swabbing the deck. Huge thanks to Captain Rhonda (Nurse) for taking the lead on our Pirate Parrrrrty with help from Powder Monkey Amanda (Activity Director).

Many fun hats were seen at the branch today for National Hat Day! It was a chance to show off our personalities and share stories. One story, in fact, by this lovely lady was fascinating. The pink foldable elephant hat she wore was something she was given after walking part of the Great Wall of China. Amazing! While wearing our hats, we listened to the very talented Ed Clark on piano! Today is St. Nicholas Day! We learned about the holy man while drawing our representation of him in Doodle & Discussion. Did you know that St. Nick wasn't referred to as Santa Claus until the early 1800s? Authors wrote about a jolly, heavy-set elf who smoked a pipe and delivered presents to the good kids in a sleigh with flying reindeer based on the stories of the famous Bishop St. Nicholas. By reviving and remaking St. Nicholas - who had become unpopular - they hoped to make Christmas a family celebration. It worked!

This morning we thanked our veterans here at Bickford - all 12 of them. We are grateful to have had our men and women serve in the Army, Marines, Navy, Coast Guard, and Air Force. After our ceremony, many hugs were given and a new American Flag was hung out front. Below is a picture of just a few of our heroes who attended the Veterans Luncheon at the Elk Lodge 158 last week. The Rio Olympics has come to a close. We had so much fun watching and talking about the different sports and how well our country was doing. We even listened to some amazing stories from one of our very own residents. While he may not have been an Olympian, he sure has the qualifications to be one - dedicated, strong, high self-esteem, and great runner. He can happily say that he has ran a marathon in every single state including D.C. and other countries such as Cuba. Did I mention he accomplished all of this from his late fifties until his seventies? He is one impressive man and we are very lucky to know him!
