Art is something we all hold dear in one form or another. Some people are artists, some people are art admirers. Jeannette is definitely an artist. she was very particular on how her sun catcher would dry and catch the colors. She had so much fun and made a lot of great memories.

Yesterday we had a radio talk show host named John Korsgaard come and entertain us with some music from the late 50's and early 60's. He talked about the history of the music and allowed the residents to get up, sing and dance. While we didn't have any BFM's get up and boogie, they all found the presentation very entertaining and enjoyed themselves listening to the music and reminiscing where they were when this music was on the radio.

Sometimes no matter how much we plan and try to keep our BFM's entertained and active, Mother Nature has other plans for us. Today on Mary B's our residents were enjoying the summer sun and beautiful breeze while blowing bubbles on our covered patio. The warm sun and cool breeze over came most of them and it turned into a late morning nap time. Staff came to me and said the activity was a lot of fun, but the fresh air just promoted a sunny day nap. I couldn't help but take out my camera and capture this moment of absolute peace being enjoyed by everyone. What better way to enjoy the outside but to relax in it and embrace the relaxation!

Dexterity is important for all ages, especially as we grow older. a large part of our exercise program at Bickford Senior Living in Bloomington is making sure those joints and muscles stay limber. This prevents falls and more serious injuries. The residents like to make jokes during exercise time and it is constantly being said we sound like a bowl of Rice Crispies cereal with all of their snap, crackle, and popping that is happening. All jokes aside though, the movements that they are doing really help keep them limber and ready to seize the day.

Part of keeping BFM's happy is keeping them engaged. One of our family favorites is the game Jenga. It provides so many different challenges from fine motor function, to muscle memory and even hand / eye coordination. One of our newer BFM's is shown really calculating her next move and watching as pieces are removed and which way the tower moves. I hear from a lot of BFM's new to playing Jenga, after the game, they realized while playing, they hadn't used that much concentration in a long time. It is a great tool to keep our loved ones minds active and healthy.
