Today is St. Nicholas Day! We learned about the holy man while drawing our representation of him in Doodle & Discussion. Did you know that St. Nick wasn't referred to as Santa Claus until the early 1800s? Authors wrote about a jolly, heavy-set elf who smoked a pipe and delivered presents to the good kids in a sleigh with flying reindeer based on the stories of the famous Bishop St. Nicholas. By reviving and remaking St. Nicholas - who had become unpopular - they hoped to make Christmas a family celebration. It worked!

Happy Veteran's Day! While this day only comes around once a year, it's nice to have the reminder that we should appreciate all of our veterans not only today, but always. This morning we thanked our veterans here at Bickford - all 12 of them. We are grateful to have had our men and women serve in the Army, Marines, Navy, Coast Guard, and Air Force. After our ceremony, many hugs were given and a new American Flag was hung out front. Below is a picture of just a few of our heroes who attended the Veterans Luncheon at the Elk Lodge 158 last week.
