Last Week Pat, Mary, Jim and Marvin enjoyed an afternoon full of fishing! It was a bit warm and the sun showed it's true colors today, perhaps that's why the fish did not bite! We had a good time, and cooled off in the shade with some cold water afterwords. Better luck nextime!

135 year of experience? is that possible? Well, if you combine the years of service for the 15 Bickford Family Members I had the privilege of recognizing these past few weeks, it sure is! One of my favorite parts of the job is recognizing and celebrating our Bickford Family Members that have achieved employment milestones in 5 year increments. This past quarter, I proudly handed out 15 Bickford necklaces ranging from 5 year to 15 year anniversaries. One branch alone had four 15 year necklaces alone! It truly says a lot about the wonderful company that is Bickford when we have that kind of dedication. Congratulations to all those Bickford Family Members who show us every day their commitment to quality care and desire to enrich our resident's lives. (Shown in picture is Kelly Rixen, 15 yrs; Kim Schaffer, 15 years; Holly Ebensberger, 5 years, all from the Clinton Branch. Not pictured: Deb Bradley, 15 years; Molly Brosius, 15 years)

Old man winter has given a new meaning to March Madness! I think we have seen more snow balls than basketballs at the rate we are getting snow! Regardless of the how frightful it is outside, it is always delightful inside our Bickford branches. Many activities are taking place to chase away the winter blues. Check out your local Bickford Happynings calendar for a complete list of events. Each branch has volunteer opportunities to help get you through the winter months, and not to mention what a great way to pass the time waiting for warm temperatures to finally arrive. We hope to see you soon, and think Spring!

Congratulations to Bickford of Muscatine for placing in the top quartile of Bickford’s annual Enriching Happiness Survey! The Enriching Happiness Survey was created to give our Friends of the Family a chance to tell us what they like and what we need to improve on. After each survey, we transform ourselves by working with our families to create an agenda to improve targeted areas together. Bickford focuses on "Top Box" scores to differentiate between happiness and satisfaction. On a typical 5-point satisfaction scale, this means calculating the percentage of those who say they're highly satisfied (5's) instead of showing the overall average score. We compare ourselves to the high standard of Top Box scores, so that we know that we have more than satisfied residents – we have residents whose happiness has been enriched. Congrats to Bickford of Muscatine for enriching our residents happiness!

"Every human life is like a new, unique composition, beginning with our newborn cry & completely composed only after the concluding cadence of our final breath. Each of us knows & understands our own Lifesong better than anyone else; we have played it our entire lives. The distracting beat of dementia in your loved one's life, however, threatens to overtake the rhythm of their life's melody. Their Lifesong, despite dementia, remains alive in their hearts, minds, and souls. Even in the midst of the confusion & chaos of dementia, we desire to help them remember the tune, to find their place, to strike the keys & play again."
