Use it or lose it! That is a common phrase we like to joke about with residents in the halls of Bickford. We often tell our residents this to motivate them to continue their daily walks to meals, encourge their participation in our group exercise programs, and to remind them that bodies who are in motion tend to stay in motion. Bickford family members will often make "deals" with residents to ecourage increased mobilty, such as if they walk to the dining room, we will give them a lift back home afterwards, or attending a group exercise program first, then having coffee and cookies after! Please click on the attached link to read about the 4 types of recommended exercises for seniors, which include strengthening, stretching, endurance, and balance, all of which are incorporated in many different types of programs offered at Bickford. Now, get moving, because you know what we say, Use it or lose it!

Greetings from your friends at Bickford of Davenport, With snow capped trees, icicles hanging from our rooftops, and children enjoying their last snow day of the season, we all enjoyed reminiscing about the falling snow. As Mother Nature reminded us of her power and Jack Frost painted our world a glistening white, nothing was more beautiful than the love felt within our branch this week. Watching everyone interacting without worry about the weather, as our caregivers do what they do best, truly represents the magic offered at Bickford. Our Bickford Family Members set the tone for this feeling and we couldn’t be more proud of their dedication and service to our branch. We recently had the honor of crowning our Kitchen Manager Jessica as our division’s Kitchen Manager of the Year! Striving for perfection and plating each meal with love awarded her this special recognition. We would also like to congratulate two of our Bickford Family Members, Bianca and Cindy, celebrating ten years of “Enriching Happiness” within our branch. Your love, dedication, and compassion for everyone inspire us all to be better caregivers, co-works, and friends. We couldn’t be more proud to have you as part of the Davenport Bickford Family! Tick, Tock, Tick, Tock, it is time to spring ahead our clock. Shelby our LEC is buzzing as busy as a bee. Watch for her weekly email, just you wait and see. Lots of fun and activities are being sent our way. Friendship, laughter, and happiness are sure to make your day. Join us for a cup of coffee, two, or three. We would love to have you join our Bickford Family Tree. To be added to our “Branch HappYnings” weekly email or to schedule a tour and lunch, please contact Shaleen.sorgen@enrichinghappiness.com or call the branch and ask to speak to our director Laura (563-322-0000). We hope that each of you left with a renewed spirit and a stronger sense of friendship. Thank you to our friend Dave from Genesis Hospice & VNA for co-hosting our event. We appreciate your dedication to our Bickford Families. We also wanted to thank our guest speaker Denise from Heartland. Her stories of hope, years of wisdom, and love for human kind set the tone for a wonderful meeting. Due to our great response to our group, we are proud to announce we are moving to an off site location Starting March 27, 2013 “Creating Moments of Happiness” will be held at: The Bettendorf Community Center located at 2204 Grant Street, Bettendorf, IA 52722. Having the honor of servicing our friends and community, we are proud to have been a recent sponsor for Trinity Visiting Nurses Junior Board of Rock Island Mardi Gras Ball. We hope you enjoyed our group picture above of some of our Quad City Bickford Team. Raising several thousand dollars to give back to our community and dressing up for charity is just one way Bickford is proud to be actively involved in the community.
