As summer is almost coming to an end we are changing our focus to our Walk to End Alzheimer's team. We hope to raise $2,250 as a team here at Bickford. We are looking to the community to help us with our fund raising efforts. All proceeds of our fund raisers will go to the Alzheimer's Association. We will be selling T-shirts as well as doing a free will offering breakfast and horse drawn carriage ride on 9/10/17. Walk to End Alzheimer's is the world's largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer's care, support, and research. I personally plan to walk for all of the residents that I have had the pleasure of caring for over the years and my aunt. Who do you plan to walk for? A loved one, maybe a friend, or even yourself? With more than 5 million Americans living with Alzheimer's and an American developing Alzheimer's every 66 seconds there is a high likelihood that we all are effected by this disease. We are challenging all of you to join forces with Team Bickford on October 7th here in Ames for the 13th annual Walk to End Alzheimer's.

Unbelievable, summer is almost in the rear view mirror! Fall and all of its amazing color is quickly approaching. I’m looking forward to Fall with school starting, football games and Bickford Happenings. The one thing that I am personally concentrating on this Fall is taking more time and energy to meet the unrecognized need(s) of family members. I will strive to become more prolific on delivering the things residents never would think to ask for. I hope these unrecognized needs are met in a surprising manner and “enrich the happiness” of our family members. I feel happiness is generated by memorable things which happen when a person does not expect them. As for gearing up for happiness, once again this Fall we will be supporting the Alzheimer’s Walk (October 7) at the Ames Middle School. Prior to the walk, we will be having a “Family Day” (9/30) for all friends and family of Bickford family members to raise money for Alzheimer’s awareness. This will include a terrific breakfast, as well as fun activities for all. Also, on 9/13 we will have a “50’s Day” full of exciting activities. These are great ventures to open up our house to all and enrich happiness amongst each other. Lastly, during the first half of September we will be having our annual “Happiness Check” wherein one family member from each family represented at Bickford will score us, on behalf of their family, as to the happiness that is shared at Bickford. We are looking for top box scores of “5s” in each category listed! Scorecards will be taken into consideration as we move into the Fall and beyond to address our resident’s core, care, and unrecognized needs. We so want to continue to create a culture of happiness with our family members. Thanks in advance for being a vital part of our “Happiness Check!” Whatever it takes to make you happy!
