Happy Spring! I am a little late on wishing you all a happy Spring but, the weather is finally acting accordingly. I am looking forward to all of our exciting upcoming Spring events. Today is Sail the Seas Day and we brought Hawaii to Bickford! The residents and BFMs always enjoy our theme days from the activities planned and costumes worn to our special meals and decorations! Tonight we will be having our Family Gathering. We always enjoy interacting with residents and their loved ones. Our next Family Gathering will be May 11th. Please join us for our Mother's Day Breakfast Buffet. I also wanted to remind everyone that we have a Dementia Support Group for any loved one or caregiver that could benefit from the group. Our Dementia Support Groups are held the third Thursday of every month at 2:00p.m. here at Bickford. Feel free to pass this information along to anyone in the community that could benefit as well.

Hi, everyone! It's my first time updating the blog and I'm super excited to share with you all the fun things we've been doing the past few weeks. We kicked off the Olympics on Feb. 9 with our very own Opening Ceremony, complete with a Parade of Athletes (using a torch from the 1984 Summer Olympics), Oath of Athletes, National Anthem, and the Lighting of the Cauldron! LuVerne was our honorary torchbearer, lighting the fireplace with our torch to signify the official opening of the Games! We competed in various Olympic Games for two weeks. The local Iowa Sports Foundation donated medals that we could use to award to our athletes. Our Bickford roster boasted 35 athletes -- four of whom originally hailed from New York! Some of our residents' favorite sports include: roller skating, boxing, chess, along with some of the more "traditional" sports. On Feb. 14 we had our annual Valentine's Day party, beginning with the ladies having their hair and makeup done in the morning. Winnie and Bob were elected our Bickford Queen and King, as voted on by all the residents. Bruce and Shiela each had their very own "spotlight" dinner during February. (Every other week, one resident is selected as the "spotlight".) He or she chooses their very favorite meal which is specially prepared for them, and they share their favorite dessert with everyone. Special memories are read about the resident to everyone. We also had a Chinese New Year party as well as numerous entertainers and activities throughout the month. Lots of local students and athletes from Iowa State were here to share their time and love with our residents. Looking forward to an exciting March, which will include Casino Day on March 8, St. Patrick's Day on March 17 and of course a little March Madness! Thanks for sharing your loved ones with us; we truly love what we do! Until next time, Amy
